Mary's Rocking Chair

______________________________________________________________________________________________
Mary Lincoln returned to Springfield,IL. in 1865 after President Lincoln's assassination. There she frequently visited the home of a friend to whom she and Mr. Lincoln had given a caned rocking chair they owned during their years in Springfield. On one occasion, Mary Lincoln looked at the small rocker and said: "that is the little rocking chair I rocked my babies in."

The walnut rocking chair is now a part of the Lincoln furniture collection in the Lincoln National Home Site in Springfield. By special permission of the U.S. Department of Interior, a reproduction of this lovely small rocking chair can grace your home and, perhaps, rock your babies.
